With the increasing disparity of ethnic minorities needing organ and or tissue donations, it is increasingly more important that we work to address this issue with the community. The Minority Organ &Tissue Transplant Education Program of Tennessee has taken on this challenge as part of our mission. Hypertension (high blood pressure) and diabetes both are seen disproportionately in the ethnic minority community. Both of the disease processes can lead to end stage renal disease and therefore the need for a kidney transplant. These persons will be disproportionately represented on the waiting list for an organ transplant. MOTTEP of TN focuses on the African American and Hispanic communities throughout the state of Tennessee. We focus on educating the community about organ and tissue donation, but we also would like for you to “Love Yourself and Take Care Yourself”. This is the signature preventive approach to addressing the issue. Our overall goal is to convince each of you to “Live to Give”.
